Randolph Women’s Basketball Rallies To Defeat Emory & Henry, 78-69, Wednesday Evening

EMORY, Va. – The Randolph College Women's Basketball Team (5-1, 1-1 ODAC) was able to come back from a 13-point first-half deficit en route to a 78-69 win over Emory & Henry College (2-5, 0-2 ODAC) Wednesday evening at the John Rutledge King Center.

The Wasps started the game out strong, leading by a 15-7 margin at the 13:16 mark of the first half thanks to a three-pointer by senior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.). E&H continued to press its advantage, using a 6-1 run later in the period to extend the lead to 31-18 with 5:38 on the clock. Randolph battled back however, and closed the gap to two points (38-36) at halftime thanks to an 18-7 scoring spurt.

The WildCats scored six of the first 10 points coming out of the break to tie things up at 42 points apiece. RC would go up 55-47, scoring nine straight points over a 2:35 span. Emory & Henry answered with a 14-4 run capped off by a layup by sophomore guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) to regain the lead 61-59 with 6:06 left in the contest. E&H led 64-63 with 3:33 to go, but Randolph hit a pair of big field goals and converted on all six of its free throw attempts in the final 30 seconds of the game to come away with the 78-69 win.

Abigail Bullins led all players with 23 points for the WildCats, hitting four three-pointers and adding a seven-for-eight performance at the line. Jensen Hoover notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds while Allie Druffel also had a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards. Korin Harris scored 10 points off the bench as well for Randolph.

As a team, RC shot 48.2 percent (27-for-56) for the game and hit 19-of-26 (73.1%) of its free throw attempts. The WildCats held a 41-37 rebounding advantage and led, 32-28, on points in the paint.

Emory & Henry also saw four players score in double figures led by junior forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) who had 17 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Junior guard Tenesha Connor (Greensboro, N.C.) had 12 points on eight-for-11 shooting at the line while freshman guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) added 12 points, connecting on a pair of three's. Jacoby ended the game with nine points, four rebounds, 10 assists and two blocks while Langley notched 11 points and four boards off the bench.

The Wasps shot just 37.5 percent (24-for-64) for the game including a 32.4 percent clip in the second half. Despite winning the turnover battle, 20-15, and scoring 22 points off of Randolph miscues, E&H couldn't make up for their struggles from the field.

Emory & Henry will next be in action on Tuesday, December 9 when it travels to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for a non-conference contest against Salem College. Tipoff between the Wasps and Spirits is set for 7:30 p.m.
