Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Blows By Hollins, 73-48, Tuesday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (7-7, 2-3 ODAC) earned its fifth win in seven games Tuesday evening as it defeated Hollins University (2-11, 0-5 ODAC) in a rout, 73-48, at the John Rutledge King Center. With the victory, the Wasps have now surpassed last season's win total.

The two squads traded baskets back and forth for the early portion of the first half. Emory & Henry led by a 12-5 score with 13:42 on the clock, but Hollins closed the gap to four three minutes later. The Wasps then went on a 27-8 run to finish the half and take a 43-20 lead into the break. As a team, E&H shot 16-for-31 (51.6%) in the opening 20 minutes of the game, hitting four three-pointers.

Hollins came out of the break strong, scoring 10 of the first 12 points of the second half to cut the margin to 13 (45-32) with 13:07 left to play. Emory & Henry followed with a 12-0 run and led by as much as 28 after back-to-back field goals by junior forward Tamara Brewster (Morrow, Ga.). HU got within 21 points with 3:25 to go in the contest but E&H scored seven of the final 10 points for the 73-48 win.

Emory & Henry placed four players in double figures in scoring led by Brewster's 19-point night off the bench. The junior added seven rebounds and three assists in the game as well. Senior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) inched ever closer to the 1,000-point mark with 13 points and six rebounds, giving herself 973 for her career. Freshman guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) had 12 points, five rebounds, five steals and two assists while junior forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) added 10 points and eight boards off the bench.

The Wasps shot 42.4 percent (28-for-66) for the game and held a 32-6 advantage on points off turnovers. E&H also led 20-8 on fast break points and scored 36 points in the paint.

Hollins was paced by Jewellanna Parfitt, who had 15 points and 12 rebounds, despite shooting just 6-for-22 from the field. Britney Campbell had eight points and seven rebounds while Amber Markovitz added six points and 10 rebounds. HU managed to shoot only 27.3 percent (18-for-66) for the game and committed 26 turnovers.

Emory & Henry will remain at home on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., when it hosts Shenandoah University in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest.
