Guilford Women’s Basketball Holds Off Emory & Henry Rally, 73-63, Wednesday Evening

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Guilford College Women's Basketball Team (9-7, 3-4 ODAC) picked up 73-63 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (8-8, 3-4 ODAC) Wednesday evening at Ragan-Brown Field House in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

The Quakers got out to an 8-2 lead in the first 3:27 of the contest but the Wasps trimmed the margin to 13-11 midway through the period. Guilford extended its lead to nine with less than two minutes to go before the break, however five straight points by Emory & Henry made the halftime score 34-30.

GC outscored E&H by a 19-8 margin over the opening seven minutes of the second half to push its advantage to 53-38. The Quakers would lead by as much as 18 (62-44 with 8:05 remaining) before the Wasps went on a 10-0 run to trim the margin to 62-54. A three-point play by Emory & Henry sophomore guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) got the score to 66-59 with just over three minutes left on the clock, but the deficit would prove to be too much to overcome for the Wasps.

Guilford was led by Brittany Drew, who scored a game-high 20 points on seven-for-10 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds. Lauren Ramsey had 15 points and seven boards while Jenette Taylor posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Quakers shot 42.9 percent (24-for-56) for the game and hit seven of their 10 attempts from three-point range.

Jacoby tied her career high with 15 points and added four rebounds, hitting five-of-seven free throws in the contest. Junior forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) notched 14 points and four rebounds, off the bench, going six-for-eight from the field while sophomore guard Asja Jenkins (Richmond, Va.) had six points, six rebounds and three assists. Senior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) scored eight points on the night to get within six of the 1,000-point threshold.

As a team, Emory & Henry was just 24-of-66 (36.4%) from the field and made only 23.5 percent (4-of-17) of its three-pointers. The Wasps were out-rebounded by a 48-33 margin, but a 32-18 advantage on points in the paint kept the contest within reach until the final minutes.

Emory & Henry will be back on the road on Saturday when it travels to Ashland, Virginia for a 1:00 p.m., matchup with the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College. The contest will be the first of a doubleheader with the E&H and R-MC men's teams facing off at 3:30 p.m.
