Emory & Henry’s Kristie Langley Eclipses 1,000-Point Mark Despite Wasps' 85-75 Setback To Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon College Women's Basketball Team (14-2, 7-1 ODAC) may have come away with the 85-75 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (8-9, 3-5 ODAC) Saturday afternoon at Crenshaw Gymnasium, but the Wasps still had something to remember this contest by.

Senior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) became the 11th player in Emory & Henry history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark with a jumper at the 18:18 mark of the second half. Langley started the contest with 994 points for her career and now currently sits at 1,004 after a 10-point afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets got out to a 12-0 lead over the first 5:55 of the game but the Wasps surged back with a 17-5 run to tie the contest at 17 points apiece with 10:55 on the clock. R-MC went back up by eight thanks to seven straight points later in the period, however E&H closed the gap back to 30-29 and scored the final three points of the half to make the score 36-32 at the intermission.

The two squads went back and forth for nearly 15 minutes of the second half as Langley cut the margin to three with her milestone bucket. A 10-2 run gave Emory & Henry its first and largest lead of the game, 46-43, with 14:21 left to play. The margin stayed within four points before a 6-0 run by Randolph-Macon made the score 69-61. E&H would not be able to get any closer than four points the rest of the way as much of the final five minutes of play was spent at the free throw line.

The Yellow Jackets went 35-for-47 (74.5%) from the charity stripe in the game and were led by Katie Anderson, who posted a pair of game-highs with 21 points and 19 rebounds. Hannah Livermon scored 18 points while Sarah Parsons added 15 points, five rebounds and three assists. Khajae Hester scored 13 of her 15 points of the game at the line, chipping in three rebounds, five assists and two steals. R-MC managed to shoot just 36.5 percent (23-for-63) for the game but a 12-0 start and 20-point differential at the free throw line ended up being enough.

Emory & Henry was paced by junior forward Karina Farr's (Graham, Wash.) double-double as she scored 17 points and pulled down a season-high 16 boards. Sophomore guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) had 13 points and six assists in what was a homecoming game of sorts while freshman guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) added 13 points, four rebounds and five assists in the contest.

As a team, the Wasps shot just 35.4 percent (28-for-79) from the field and were only 15-of-24 (62.5%) from the free throw line. E&H led 13-9 in points off turnovers and held a slim 34-32 margin on points in the paint, but R-MC's ability to score with the clock stopped was the difference maker.

Emory & Henry will return home on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m., when it hosts Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Lynchburg College.
