Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Hammers Hollins, 77-41, Wednesday On The Road

ROANOKE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (11-11, 6-7 ODAC) saw 11 different players put their mark in the scoring column in an overwhelming 77-41 victory over Hollins University (2-20, 0-13 ODAC) Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

E&H got out to an 11-2 lead at the 15:59 mark of the first half a never looked back. Moments later, the Wasps went on an 18-6 run to push the margin to 29-8 with 6:20 on the clock. Hollins was able to chip away and get within 15 points (37-22) at the half thanks to a 7-2 scoring spurt over the final 1:45 of the opening 20 minutes.

Emory & Henry scored the first eight points of the second half to extend its advantage back above 20 points, 45-22, with 17:03 left to play. The Wasps continued to keep the pressure on, forcing several 10-second violations on defense, as they pushed the margin to 30 points under the six-minute mark. E&H would lead by as much as 39 points down the stretch with the final 36-point gap representing its biggest conference win since defeating Hollins by 44 points (88-44) on February 17, 2009.

Senior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) scored a game-high 14 points for E&H, hitting four three's on the evening to go along with three rebounds and two steals. Freshman guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) had 12 points, three rebounds, five steals and four assists while junior forward Tamara Brewster (Morrow, Ga.) added 11 points. Junior guard Anna Green (Raleigh, N.C.) contributed eight points off the bench while junior forward Amanda Stanley (Mooresville, N.C.) and sophomore guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) has seven points each. Jacoby notched four rebounds, four assists and four steals as well.

As a team, Emory & Henry shot 46.8 percent (29-for-62) from the field and hit 9-of-18 (50%) of its three-pointers. The Wasps scored 31 points off of 31 Hollins turnovers and held a slim, 36-35, rebounding advantage.

Hollins was paced by Taylor Catron's 13 points, six rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks while Giselle Verville had 10 points off the bench. The Green-and-Gold managed just 13-for-49 (26.5%) shooting for the game, and could not handle the Emory & Henry defensive pressure.

E&H will return home to the John Rutledge King Center on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m., ODAC contest against Randolph-Macon College. The Wasps will honor their three seniors prior to the start of the game.
