Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Stuns Randolph-Macon, 85-84, Saturday On Senior Day

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (12-11, 7-7 ODAC) rallied from a six-point deficit with 1:43 remaining in the game to defeat visiting Randolph-Macon College (18-4, 11-3 ODAC) by an 85-84 score Saturday afternoon at the John Rutledge King Center. Freshman guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) hit the game-winning three-pointer from the right wing with just under six seconds remaining in the contest.

The contest also served as Senior Day as the Wasps honored Meredith Grant (Blountville, Tenn.), Nicole Roman (Honaker, Va.) and Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) prior to tipoff.

E&H jumped out to a 21-4 lead at the 13:41 mark of the first half, forcing six R-MC turnovers during the span. The Yellow Jackets responded with a 36-9 scoring run to go up 40-30 with 3:35 prior to halftime. Emory & Henry cut the margin to five twice in the final 90 seconds of the stanza but the score at intermission favored Randolph-Macon, 46-37.

Coming out of the locker room, Emory & Henry jumped back on the attack offensively, taking a 51-50 lead thanks to a 14-4run during the opening four minutes of play. The two teams traded baskets for the next seven minutes with the Yellow Jackets going up seven, 70-63. E&H scored the next 10 points to regain the advantage but R-MC pushed back with a 13-4 run to lead 77-83 with under two minutes to go.

The Wasps swarmed on the defensive end of the court, and cut the lead to one with 21 seconds to go. Randolph-Macon was only able to connect on one of its final two free throws, taking an 84-82 advantage with 16 second left on the clock. E&H got the shot it wanted and Harris banked in the triple to give the Wasps lead. The Yellow Jackets got one last attempt at the win, but the shot was long, allowing Emory & Henry to escape with the win.

All five starters for E&H reached double figures in scoring led by junior forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.), who tied her career high with 24 points on 10-for-15 shooting and adding eight rebounds. Harris notched 16 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals while sophomore guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) had 12 points, six rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Junior forward Tamara Brewster (Morrow, Ga.) pitched in 12 points and six board while Langley added 10 points seven rebounds, three assists and three steals.

Randolph-Macon, which received votes in the most recent NCAA Division III Top 25 Poll, was paced by Lauren Vugteveen's double-double of 22 points and 13 rebounds, going 10-for-11 from the floor. Hannah Livermon had 22 points while Sarah Parsons had 21 points and five rebounds.

Emory & Henry will have its final home game of the regular season on Wednesday when it hosts Guilford College at 5:00 p.m. The contest will be the first of a doubleheader at Bob Johnson Court.
