Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Defeats Randolph, 60-50, In Regular Season Finale Sunday

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (13-12, 8-8 ODAC) solidified at least a .500 season for itself Sunday afternoon as it defeated Randolph College (13-12, 4-12 ODAC) by a 60-50 score at the Randolph Athletics and Dance Center. With the win, the Wasps avenge a 78-69 loss to the WildCats from December.

E&H got out to an 8-2 lead in the first three minutes of the game and pushed its advantage to 16-6 with 10:34 on the clock. The Wasps would go up by as much as 12 point in the opening 20 minutes (22-10) but the WildCats scored five straight to close period, making the score 22-15 at the break.

In the second half, Emory & Henry quickly extended its lead back to double digits, going up by 16 points with 12:53 left to play. Just over three minutes later, the Wasps pushed the margin to 19 (49-30) and were able to hold on down the stretch for the 60-50 win, despite allowing Randolph to score the final seven points of the contest.

Junior forward Tamara Brewster (Morrow, Ga.) led the Wasps with a game-high 17 points and added seven rebounds and two assists while junior forward Karina Farr (Graham, Wash.) had a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) added nine points and seven boards while sophomore guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) contributed eight points, seven assists and three rebounds.

As a team, the Wasps shot just 39.7 percent (25-for-63) for the game and hit only 2-of-12 (16.7%) three-point attempts in the contest. E&H scored 30 points in the paint and 16 second-chance points thanks to 14 offensive rebounds.

Randolph's Allie Druffel had 16 points and 10 rebounds while Jacqueline Hockman added 15 points and four board off the bench. No other WildCat had more than three points in the game. RC was cold from the floor in the first half, shooting just 6-for-33 (18.2%). Their shooting improved in the second half, but was not enough to come back from a 19-point deficit.

These two teams will meet again on Tuesday evening in the First Round of the 2015 ODAC Tournament. Emory & Henry, which has earned the seventh seed in the tournament, will play host to #10 Randolph at the John Rutledge King Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
