#3 Lynchburg Women’s Basketball Tops Emory & Henry, 53-40, In ODAC Semifinals Saturday Evening

SALEM, Va. – The #3 Lynchburg College Women's Basketball Team (19-8) advanced to the championship game of the 2015 Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament with a 53-40 win over #7 Emory & Henry (15-13) Saturday evening at the Salem Civic Center. The 15-win season by the Wasps marks the first winning season and highest win total since the 2004-05 campaign.

The Hornets jumped out to a 16-9 lead at the 14:39 mark of the first half but the Wasps answered back with an 8-0 run to lead, 17-16, on a layup by sophomore guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.). Lynchburg pushed their advantage to 13 points at the half (37-24) thanks in part to 10-for-10 free throw shooting in the opening 20 minutes of play.

Both teams were cold from the floor in the final period as both shot less than 20 percent. LC started things off with an 11-3 run over the first 10 minutes of the game to push its advantage to 48-27. Emory & Henry closed the gap down the stretch, outscoring Lynchburg 6-0 in the final two minutes to draw the lead down to the final 13-point (53-40) margin.

LC's Shannon Allen led all scorers with 15 points, 12 of which came before the break, while Chaney Forbush added 11 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. Charmaine Hairston had nine points while Sammi Goldsmith chipped in six points and six boards. As a team, the Hornets shot just 33.3 percent (17-for-51) for the game, but scored 16 points off of Wasp turnovers.

Senior guard Kristie Langley (Staley, N.C.) led Emory & Henry with 10 points and 13 rebounds in her final game wearing blue and gold. Junior forwards Tamara Brewster (Morrow, Ga.) and Amanda Stanley (Mooresville, N.C.) scored nine and eight points, respectively with Stanley pulling down eight rebounds. Freshman guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) posted seven points as well for E&H.

The Wasps were just 25 percent from the field and hit only 2-of-16 (12.5%) of their three-point attempts. The Wasps held a 42-40 advantage on the boards and led 14-12 on points in the paint.

Emory & Henry reached the semifinals of the ODAC Tournament for the first time since 2005, winning a pair of postseason contests for the first time since 2001. The 15 wins by the Wasps also equal the amount of victories from the past three seasons combined. Langley finishes her career as the eighth-highest scorer in program history with 1,093 points.
