EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (1-1) outscored The University of the South (0-2) by a 67-44 margin over the final three periods to earn an 80-56 win Friday evening at home. The contest saw 13 different Wasps put their mark in the scoring column.

How It Happened
- The Tigers took an early 8-1 lead at the 6:46 mark of the first period but the Wasps began to chip away at the advantage, taking the lead 13-12 with 25 seconds to go before the end of the quarter. The 12-4 run by E&H was put together by six different players over the 5:25 span.
- Emory & Henry began to build some steam in the second frame, shooting 58.8 percent (10-for-17) from the field. With a 27-24 lead, the Wasps outscored the Tigers by a 12-7 margin over the final 2:47 of the half to take a 39-31 lead into the locker room.
- Coming out of the intermission, the two squads traded baskets for the first two and a half minutes of the third. E&H took control of the contest thanks to a 14-7 run which covered 3:43, going up 58-41 with 3:41 left in the period. The last two-plus minutes of the frame went scoreless as the Wasps and Tigers would go into the final quarter with a 60-47 score.
- Sewanee cut the margin to 12 (62-50) with 8:31 to play, but then set off an 18-6 scoring run to end the game by Emory & Henry. The Wasps scored the final nine points of the contest over a period of 1:43 to take the 80-56 win.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- E&H placed four players in double figures led by freshman forward Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) with 15 points and nine rebounds, just one board shy of a double-double.
- Freshman forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) also reached double figures for the first time in her career, adding 11 points and three assists off the bench.
- Sophomore guard Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) had 10 points and seven rebounds while junior guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) dropped 10 points, five rebounds and three assists.
- Senior guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) came up one assist short of her own school record, finishing with 13 helpers to go along with three points, three rebounds and three steals.
Sewanee Individual Leaders
- Hannah McCormack led all players with 18 points, going eight-for-15 from the field and added four rebounds and two assists.
- Sue Kim scored 13 points, hitting a trio of threes to go along with three rebounds and four assists while Bella Taylor and Savannah Rose tacked on nine and seven points, respectively.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot an even 50 percent (31-for-62) for the game while Sewanee managed to convert just 23-of-60 (38.3%) of its shots.
- The Wasps led by a 44-24 margin on points in the paint and showed the depth of their bench, outscoring the Sewanee reserves, 43-9.
- E&H assisted on 26 of its 31 made baskets, a rate of 83.9 percent, while Sewanee had 15 assists on the night. Emory & Henry also held a 16-4 lead on fast-break points.

- Emory & Henry will host Meredith College on Monday at 7:00 p.m.
- It will be the second straight year that the Wasps and Avenging Angels have meet in women's basketball. E&H won last season's meeting, 78-55, in Raleigh.
