EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (2-1) scored 70 points in the paint and 53 points off turnovers as it defeated Meredith College (0-2) in a rout, 103-43, Monday at home. All 15 players which suited up for the contest saw at least eight minutes of playing time and 14 of them found their way into the scoring column.

How It Happened
- The two teams went back and forth for the majority of the opening period before Emory & Henry scored the final eight points to go up 25-19 at the first break. The first quarter had four ties and six lead changes before the Wasps seized control of the evening.
- E&H added another nine straight to start the second, going up by 15 (34-19) with 7:31 on the clock. With the score 40-26, the Wasps took off again, putting together a 20-2 run to extend the advantage to 32 points at the break, 62-30.
- Emory & Henry kept the pressure on through the third, extending its lead to 38 thanks to a 6-0 spurt to start the half, and going above 40 with the final nine points of the quarter, 79-38.
- The final period was more of the same as the Wasps continued to pull away, going up by 50 at the 4:55 mark and hitting the 60-point margin with the final bucket of the game as they rolled for the 103-43 victory.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman guard Brandy Watkins (Bluff City, Tenn.) led all players with 16 points off the bench, going six-for-eight from the field with a trio of three-pointers. Watkins added two rebounds, three assists and three steals.
- Sophomore guard Jada Penn (Radford, Va.) notched 15 points and six steals while sophomore forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) had 12 points on six-for-eight shooting, two rebounds and three steals.
- Freshman forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) put up nine points and four rebounds while freshman forward Aubriana Peebles (Mocksville, N.C.) tacked on eight points, five rebounds, two assists and three steals.
- Sophomore guard Jessica Rivas (Lawrenceville, Va.) put up eight points of her own while sophomore guard Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.) had seven points, two assists and two steals and senior guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) contributed five points, three rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Meredith Individual Leaders
- Jessi Hayes had 14 points and seven rebounds while Meghan Pleasants notched nine points, seven rebounds and two steals.
- Amy Rhoney had eight points and five boards while Maddie Gladwell offered six points off the bench.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 53.8 percent (42-for-78) for the game, its second-straight contest of connecting on half or more field goals, while Meredith went 14-for-34 (41.2%) from the floor.
- The Wasps outscored the Avenging Angels by a 70-20 margin in the paint and 53-6 on points off turnovers. E&H defenders forced 38 Meredith miscues in the game, 32 of which came as steals.
- Emory & Henry's quick hands also fed the transition game as they led 40-3 on fast-break points and assisted on 29 of 42 field goals.
Notable
- The 103 points scored by Emory & Henry mark the first time crossing the century barrier since November 20, 2014 when the Wasps defeated Warren Wilson College by a 101-47 score. The win was Anne Crutchfield's first as head coach at E&H.
- The 103 points scored are also the most scored by the Wasps since the opening game of the 2005-06 season when they put up 119 in a win over then-Methodist College.
- Emory & Henry's 60-point margin of victory is the largest dating all the way back to a 100-28 win over Mary Baldwin College on January 10, 1986.
