FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The No. 14 University of Mary Washington Women's Basketball Team (9-0) remained undefeated on the year with a 60-38 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (6-2) Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are ranked 14th in NCAA Division III by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and D3hoops.com.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry went ahead 5-2 at the 8:41 mark of the first period but a 14-0 run by Mary Washington covering 4:21 put the Eagles ahead 16-5. A three-point play by freshman forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) closed the gap down to 19-11 at the end of the quarter.
- The two squads only scored a combined 14 points in the second 10 minutes of play, with E&H finishing the frame out with a 7-2 run to make the halftime score 24-20.
- Coming out of the break, Mary Washington opened things up with an 8-1 run to go back up by double digits, 32-21, with 7:18. The Wasps would chip away at the lead to get within five midway through the quarter, but the Eagles turned on the offense to finish on an 11-3 run to make the score 46-33 with one period remaining.
- The fourth quarter was all UMW as it out-scored E&H by a 14-5 margin, pushing the advantage to as much as 24, 60-36, in the final two minutes of the game. The Eagles would go on to win, 60-38, after a final basket by the Wasps.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) recorded seven points, five rebounds and two steals, going three-for-five from the field.
- Sophomore guard Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.) had six points while senior guard Megan Jacoby (Richmond, Va.) tacked on five points, four rebounds and three assists and freshman forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) notched five points off the bench.
Mary Washington Individual Leaders
- Kendall Parker put up a game-high 25 points on seven-for-11 shooting with six three-pointers while Brianne Comden notched nine points and five boards.
- Megan Green added eight points and Taylor Barton registered six points, four rebounds and two steals.
- Jordan Pamlayne had four points and led all players with seven rebounds.
A Deeper Look
- Mary Washington hit 47.6 percent (20-for-42) of its field goal attempts and went 10-for-18 (55.6%) from beyond the arc while Emory & Henry shot a season-low 29.5 percent (13-for-44) from the floor.
- Both squads committed 24 turnovers in the contest but it was the Eagles who took advantage, leading the battle on points off turnovers 28-9.
- UMW out-rebounded E&H, 34-29, and held a 20-14 lead on points in the paint.
- Emory & Henry assisted on 11 of its 13 field goals on the afternoon while Mary Washington had 15 assists on 20 made baskets.
Notable
- The loss by Emory & Henry snaps a six-game winning streak, its longest stretch in the win column since opening the 2015-16 season with a 6-0 record.
- It is the first time since December 20, 2015 that the Wasps have taken on a nationally-ranked Division III opponent. E&H fell in that contest to the No. 16 University of Scranton at the Las Vegas Hoopla.
