Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Tops Birmingham-Southern, 67-45, Monday At Oglethorpe

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (8-2, 1-1 ODAC) picked up its third win in four days Monday, opening Oglethorpe University's Holiday Inn and Suites Classic with a 67-45 win over Birmingham-Southern College (3-5, 0-0 SAA). The Wasps have also won seven of their last eight games, dating back to Tuesday, November 21.

How It Happened
- With the score 4-4 early in the contest, Emory & Henry scored seven in a row to open up an 11-4 advantage with 5:20 on the clock. The Wasps closed the period on a 10-1 run to lead, 21-7.
- E&H pushed its margin to 20 (33-13) midway through the second quarter, but BSC's offense came alive to close the gap to 35-26 at the half thanks to a 13-2 scoring spurt.
- The momentum began to shift back to the Wasps in the third frame as they extended their lead back to 16 (43-27) with 6:15 left in the quarter.  Birmingham-Southern trimmed the margin back to single digits, but Emory & Henry scored seven in a row to take a 54-38 lead with 10 minutes left to play.
- In the fourth quarter, E&H used a 10-3 opening run for its largest lead of the game, going up 64-41 on back-to-back layups by junior guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.). Both teams went cold from the field in the last five minutes with E&H holding off all BSC attempts for the 67-45 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) put up a game-high 15 points and made it a double-double with 10 rebounds while junior forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) notched 11 points, six boards and four steals.
- Sophomore forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) had 10 points off the bench while junior guard Myesha Logan (Roanoke, Va.) added nine points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals.
- Sophomore forward Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) contributed eight points and six rebounds.

Birmingham-Southern Individual Leaders
- Emilee Olsen had 10 points, eight rebounds and two blocks to lead the Panthers while Elizabeth Philpot tacked on 10 points and six boards.
- Christian McGowan added eight points off the bench, hitting a pair of three-pointers.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 21-for-53 (39.6%) for the game, failing to get going from long range as it made just one of 12 (8.3%) of its three-point attempts. The Wasps made up the difference at the line, going 24-for-26 (92.3%) on free throws.
- Birmingham-Southern hit just 27.5 percent (14-of-51) of its field goal chance with three three-pointers. The Panthers added a 14-of-19 (73.7%) performance at the charity stripe.
- E&H held a 42-32 lead on rebounding, including a 14-12 margin on the offensive glass.
- The Wasps scored 32 points off 27 Panther turnovers, committing just 18 miscues.
- Emory & Henry also held a 32-20 advantage on points in the paint and a 24-14 margin on bench points.
