Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Beats Bridgewater, 84-74, Saturday In ODAC Action

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (11-4, 4-2 ODAC) shot 54.2 percent on the afternoon as defeated Bridgewater College (7-7, 3-3 ODAC) by an 84-74 score Saturday afternoon. The victory avenged an early season loss to the Eagles as the Wasps continued their move up the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings.

How It Happened
- The opening period saw four ties and nine lead changes as the two squads went back and forth early. Neither team led by more than four points during that span with the Wasps holding a 24-23 advantage after one.
- Emory & Henry's offense began to come alive in the second quarter. Down by one, 28-27 with 6:10 to go before the half, the Wasps went on a 20-5 run for a 47-33 lead at the intermission.
- Returning to the court, E&H continued to be the team with the advantage but a 12-4 run by BC midway through the third closed the margin down to seven (57-50). The Wasps extended their lead back to 71-57 with one quarter to play.
- In the final stanza, the Wasps slowed the pace of the contest and were able to bleed a significant amount of clock. Though Bridgewater was able to trim the deficit down to the final 84-74 score, the outcome of the contest remained solidly in the hands of Emory & Henry.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) had 17 points on 8-for-11 shooting off the bench for the Wasps, adding six rebounds, while sophomore forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) put up 17 points, eight boards and three assists.
- Junior guard Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) scored 15 points and sophomore forward Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) contributed 13 points, five rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
- Junior forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) notched six points, seven rebounds and six assists.

Bridgewater Individual Leaders
- Briana Moore posted a game-high 21 points to go along with two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- Ahlia Moone chipped in 18 points off the bench while Rebecca Harvey recorded 15 points and six rebounds.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry's 54.2 shooting percentage came by way of a 14-of-21 (66.7%) second half. The Wasps connected on six three-pointers and shot 87.5 percent (14-of-16) at the free throw line.
- Bridgewater made 25-of-57 (43.9%) of its shots with nine three-pointers. The Eagles were efficient at the free throw line, hitting 15-of-18 (83.3%) of their attempts.
- E&H dominated the glass, outrebounding BC by a 45-19 mark. The Wasps also pulled down 15 offensive boards which aided in an 18-9 advantage on second-chance points.
- The Wasps also boasted a 51-22 lead on points in the paint but the Eagles took advantage of 20 E&H errors to hold a 26-14 lead on points off turnovers.
