LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee University Women's Basketball Team (4-2, 2-1 ODAC) built a 19-point third-quarter lead and held off a rally in the fourth by No. 15 Emory & Henry College (6-1, 2-1 ODAC) to pick up a 71-62 upset victory Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- W&L scored the first nine points of the game and led, 12-2, at the 5:50 mark of the opening period. The Generals took a 20-11 advantage after 10 minutes.
- The Wasps trimmed the deficit to five early in the second and traded baskets with Washington and Lee for much of the frame before an 8-0 helped to made the score 34-23 at the half.
- The Generals opened the third period on a 10-2 run for a 44-25 advantage, their largest of the game. E&H was able to carve the margin down to 12 (52-40) with one quarter to go.
- Emory & Henry put up its best run of the game to start the fourth, 13-4 to trim the deficit down to three points, 56-53. The Wasps would get the score to 58-56 with just under four minutes to play but a 9-3 run by the Generals was enough to put the game out of reach. W&L made 9-of-12 free throws in the final 64 seconds to secure the 71-62 victory.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) led the Wasps with 18 points and seven rebounds while senior forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) notched 17 points and five boards.
- Senior guard Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.) put up seven points while Chloe Harris (Bristol, Va.) and junior forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) had six and five points off the bench, respectively.
Washington and Lee Individual Leaders
- Megan Horn posted a game-high 22 points, making five three-pointers, to go along with four rebounds and three assists. Taylor Casey scored 17 points for the Generals.
- Jordan Deihl had nine points and eight rebounds and Kate Groninger added seven points.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made just 38.6 percent (22-of-57) of its shots and was 1-for-12 (8.3%) from beyond the arc. The Wasps converted 17-of-26 (65.4%) of their free throw attempts.
- Washington and Lee also struggled from the field at 24-for-67 (35.8%) but connected on eight three-point baskets. The Generals were an efficient 15-for-21 (71.4%) at the stripe.
- E&H led, 41-37, on rebounding but W&L pulled down 15 rebounds which translated to a 17-5 lead on second-chance points.
- The Wasps held a 36-20 advantage on points in the paint, but the Generals utilized a 21-15 margin on points off turnovers.
