Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Defeats Meredith, 70-54, Saturday At Lynchburg Holiday Tournament

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (8-2, 3-2 ODAC) saw its first action in three weeks on Saturday afternoon as it picked up a 70-54 win over Meredith College (1-10, 1-2 USA South) at the Lynchburg Holiday Tournament. All 15 players that suited up for E&H found their way into the scoring column.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry jumped out to a 9-2 lead at the 6:09 mark of the first quarter, but Meredith closed the gap to 13-12 thanks to a 10-4 run. The Wasps pushed the margin to 27-18 through 10 minutes of play.
- E&H and Meredith traded baskets the whole second period and went into the half with a 38-31 score.
- The third stanza was much like the second, with E&H's lead fluctuating between five and 10 points. In the fourth, the Wasps' depth proved to be the difference maker as they pulled away to earn the 70-54 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior forward Taylor Blevins (Abingdon, Va.) led the Wasps with 11 points and seven rebounds while junior forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) added eight points and six boards.
- Senior guard Jada Penn (Radford, Va.) and junior forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) had seven points each off the bench as Stafford added three rebounds and two assists.
- Senior guard Tessa Johnston (High Point, N.C.) and freshman center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) both contributed six points.

Meredith Individual Leaders
- Kimberly Schuh posted a game-high 22 points, going 10-for-13 at the free throw line while Kirstie King had six points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

 A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 44.3 percent (31-of-70) of its field goal attempts but was cold from beyond the arc (4-of-17). The Wasps only shot seven free throws during the contest (57.1%).
- Meredith hit 18-of-47 (38.3%) of its attempts from the floor, but made six of eight (75%) of its triples. The Avenging Angels were 12-for-15 (80%) at the stripe.
- E&H held a 44-27 rebounding advantage including a 22-8 mark on the offensive glass. The Wasps outscored the Angels, 20-10, on second-chance points and 48-20 on points in the paint.
- Emory & Henry took advantage of 26 Meredith turnovers, for a 32-9 lead on its ensuing possessions.
