LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (8-1, 3-0 ODAC) used a 13-2 run midway through the fourth period to pull away from University of Lynchburg (5-3, 3-1 ODAC) for a 67-56 Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Wasps move into a tie for first place in the league with Shenandoah at 3-0.

How It Happened
- The Wasps scored the first eight points of the game but the Hornets responded with eight of their own to knot things up. A three-point play by sophomore center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) put E&H ahead 13-10 through the end of the first period.
- Emory & Henry continued its run out to 12-0 with Hoppers scoring 10 straight for a 22-10 advantage with 6:38 to go before the halftime horn. Lynchburg got within four, 26-22, but the Wasps pushed back to make it a 30-22 contest at the break.
- In the third, E&H scored four in a row out of the gate to match its largest lead of the contest, 34-22, but Lynchburg responded with an 18-2 run to take a 40-36 lead with 3:12 on the clock. E&H scored seven at the line in the last three minutes to regain the advantage, 43-40, with 10 minutes left to play.
- The two squads traded buckets out to a 47-all tie with 6:34 remaining setting up Emory & Henry's 13-2 run which covered 3:17 and was capped by six in a row by junior guard Josie Salyer (Mount Carmel, Tenn.). The Wasps converted five of their final six from the line to complete the 67-56 victory.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior forward Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) notched her nation-leading seventh double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds, adding four steals and two blocks while Hoppers finished the contest with 15 points and five boards for a new career high in scoring.
- Senior forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) went for 12 points and five rebounds while senior forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Lynchburg Individual Leaders
- Erin Green posted a game-high 18 points and added seven rebounds and two blocks while Carolyn Noe put up 13 points, three boards, three steals and two assists.
- Abby Oguich recorded 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.
A Deeper Look
- E&H went 19-for-51 (37.3%) from the field but the difference was made at the free throw line as it scored 26 points on 31 attempts (83.9%).
- Lynchburg shot just 33.9 percent (21-of-62) for the game with five makes from long range. The Hornets were 75 percent (9-for-12) at the stripe.
- The Hornets led 38-33 on rebounding and their 14 offensive boards translated to a 14-4 advantage on second-chance points.
- Both squads were successful down low, with E&H leading, 30-28, on points in the paint.
- The Wasps again showed their depth, as they led, 21-9, on bench points.
