Roanoke Women’s Basketball Upsets Emory & Henry, 83-59, Wednesday In ODAC Showdown

SALEM, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (11-2, 5-1 ODAC) saw its 10-game winning streak end at the hands of Roanoke College (10-4, 5-2 ODAC) Wednesday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest by an 83-59 score. The Maroons saw five players reach double figures in scoring on their way to the victory.

How It Happened
- The Maroons jumped out to a 22-14 lead at the end of the first 10 minutes of play and used a 21-9 second frame to carry a 43-23 advantage into the locker room.
- In the third, E&H closed the gap to 10 (58-48) but RC responded in the final period to pull away for the 83-59 victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Tenn.) put up a team-high 11 points and added eight rebounds and three steals while junior guard Elizabeth Jones (Wytheville, Va.) had 10 points, four boards and two steals.
- Senior forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) tallied nine points, three rebounds, three blocks and two assists while senior forward Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) went for eight points, 12 rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Roanoke Individual Leaders
- Whitney Hopson posted a double-double with 17 points and 12 assists while Kayla Kinsler scored 15 points.
- Kristina Harrel pitched in 13 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals while Rose Sande and Sayre Brandsatter had 11 and 10 points, respectively off the bench.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry hit just 19-of-53 (35.8%) of their shots and made five three-pointers. The Wasps shot 72.7 percent (16-of-22) from the foul line.
- Roanoke made 47.7 percent (31-of-65) of its field goals with nine makes from long range. The Maroons shot 12-for-16 (75%) at the stripe.
- RC edged E&H, 38-37, on rebounding but the Wasps put up a 12-8 lead on second-chance points.
- The Maroons led, 35-15, on points off turnovers and 36-24 on points in the paint.
