Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Defeats Guilford, 50-45, Wednesday On The Road

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (20-4, 14-3 ODAC) set a new standard for continued success with its 50-45 win over Guilford College (13-9, 9-8 ODAC) Wednesday evening in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action. The Wasps have now posted three-straight 20-win seasons for the first time in program history. E&H is also assured one of the top three seeds in next week's ODAC Tournament.

How It Happened
- The Wasps and Quakers traded baskets out to an 8-7 E&H lead with 4:43 in the opening period. Guilford went on a 7-0 run for a 14-8 advantage but Emory & Henry closed the gap to 17-15 through 10 minutes of play.
- Both teams struggled to find their offense in the second quarter but E&H was able to edge ahead for a 24-22 halftime advantage.
- In the third, the squads went back and forth early, trading the lead seven times. Guilford closed the frame with the final five points to take a 37-36 advantage into the final frame.
- E&H and GC continued to jostle through the early minutes of the fourth quarter with the Wasps taking the lead for good, 43-41, on a layup by senior forward Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) with 5:44 remaining. Emory & Henry closed the contest on a 9-4 run as it escaped with the 50-45 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- McKinney posted a team-high 14 points, adding six rebounds, three steals, two assists and a block while senior forward Kara Stafford (Bristol, Va.) had eight points, five boards, two assists, two steals and a block of her own.
- Junior guard Kylea Cooper (Hickory, N.C.) put up seven points, four rebounds and three steals while junior forward Elizabeth Jones (Wytheville, Va.) led all players with 13 rebounds to go along with six points.

Guilford Individual Leaders
- Miracle Walters posted 14 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Quakers while Lindsay Gauldin went for 10 points and five boards.
- Carisma Lynn pulled down 13 rebounds while Kristen Roberts had six points off the bench.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot a season-low 29.6 percent (16-for-54) for the game, but made up for it at the free throw line, going 13-for-17 (76.5%).
- Guilford also struggled from the field, hitting just 18-of-58 (31%) of its shots. The Quakers didn't have the benefit of the charity stripe shooting just 55.6 percent (5-of-9) at the line.
- E&H held a 47-35 rebounding advantage, pulling down 19 offensive boards, as they led 18-13 on second-chance points.
- The Quakers managed a 20-12 lead on points in the paint despite the loss.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will close out the regular season on Saturday when it hosts Bridgewater College in a key ODAC matchup. Tipoff will be at 4:30 p.m., as game two of a doubleheader with the E&H men.
- The Wasps will also honor their three seniors prior to the start of the game.
