Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Earns Two VaSID All-State First Team Picks

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team continues to pile on postseason awards with a pair of recognitions from the Virginia Sports Information Directors. VaSID officials announced Monday that senior forwards Sydney McKinney (Big Stone Gap, Va.) and Peyton Williams (Saltville, Va.) were selected to the VaSID All-State College Division First Team.

This marks the third year in a row and fourth time in the past five seasons that E&H has been represented on the All-State Teams.

McKinney and Williams were both named to the All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference First Team and the D3hoops.com All-South Region Third Team. Williams was the ODAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year and the pair combined to win ODAC Player of the Week five times over the course of the season.

Emory & Henry posted a 22-5 record (15-3 ODAC) and earned the #1 seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Wasps were ranked as the No. 6 team in the NCAA Division III South Region during all four ranking periods of the season. Across the past four years, E&H boasted its most-successful four-year period on the court, winning 86 games with a .782 winning percentage and securing three-straight 20-win seasons. Emory & Henry also reached the ODAC Tournament Semifinals three times with one appearance in the league championship game.

Randolph-Macon College's Kelly Williams earned her second Player of the Year honor while Christopher Newport University's Bill Broderick was again tabbed as State Coach of the Year. CNU's Anaya Simmons was recognized as State Rookie of the Year.

The VaSID All-State teams are selected by sports information directors of member institutions of the Virginia Sports Information Directors across the Commonwealth of Virginia. VaSID, founded in 1983, selects teams in two divisions (University and College) for 15 sports and five single-division teams. The group also recognizes Academic All-State teams across all sports.
