LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee University Women's Basketball Team (3-1, 2-1 ODAC) used a strong fourth period to earn a 76-62 non-conference win over Emory & Henry College (6-4, 4-3 ODAC) Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry got out to a 14-6 advantage at the 5:05 mark of the opening period and led, 24-18 through 10 minutes of play.
- The Wasps pushed their lead to eight (29-21) with 8:40 on the clock in the second, but nine straight by the Generals gave them a 30-29 advantage midway through the quarter. W&L led by a 37-32 score but E&H scored seven of the final nine points of the half for a 39-all tie at the break.
- The two squads went shot-for-shot in the third period as neither was able to break away. The Generals took a 59-58 lead into the final quarter.
- After the teams traded baskets early in the fourth, Washington and Lee closed the game on a 13-0 run for the final 76-62 score.
Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Sophomore guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) led the team in scoring for a second game in a row, posting 13 points with a pair of three-pointers.
- Senior forward Elizabeth Jones (Wytheville, Va.) had nine points, five rebounds and two assists while senior guard Josie Salyer (Mount Carmel, Tenn.) recorded eight points and five boards.
- Senior guard Kylea Cooper (Hickory, N.C.) and freshman guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) each had seven points as Cooper added three assists.
Washington and Lee Individual Leaders
- Erin Hughes posted a game-high 29 points to go along with seven rebounds, four steals, two blocks and two assists.
- Kate Groninger had 11 points and four boards while Hanna Malik tallied 11 points off the bench.
A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made 36.7 percent (22-of-60) of its field goal attempts with seven three-pointers. The Wasps went 11-for-14 (78.6%) at the free throw line.
- Washington and Lee connected on 28-of-62 (45.2%) of its shots from the floor with seven makes from long range. The Generals hit 76.5% (13-for-17) of their free throws.
- W&L held a 42-34 rebounding advantage and used nine offensive boards for a 12-9 lead on second-chance points.
- The Generals forced the Wasps into 17 turnovers and made the most of their ensuing possessions, holding a 28-18 lead on points off turnovers.
