Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Pulls Away From Ferrum, 85-67, Thursday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team (5-6) scored 31 points in the fourth quarter as it rallied to defeat Ferrum College (1-8) by an 85-67 score Thursday evening in a non-conference game.

How It Happened
- Ferrum jumped out to a 6-0 lead at 6:49 mark of the first period and used a 9-2 run to close the frame for an 18-8 advantage through 10 minutes of play.
- Early in the second, Emory & Henry notched a 12-2 run to tie the contest at 20-all with 5:15 to go before the half. The squads traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter with the Wasps taking a 30-28 lead into the intermission.
- Coming out of the break, the teams continued to go back and forth throughout the third. Ferrum went ahead, 53-46, thanks to seven-straight points but E&H finished the period strong, closing the gap to 57-54.
- In the fourth, the Wasps turned on the gas, opening on a 17-2 run which covered 3:54. A 14-2 run later in the quarter was the nail in the coffin as Emory & Henry came away with the 85-67 win.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) put up a team-high 21 points and completed the double-double with 14 rebounds, going 9-for-14 from the field.
- Senior guard Kylea Cooper (Hickory, N.C.) notched 17 points, five boards, five assists and two steals while sophomore guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) went for 14 points, four steals, three rebounds and two assists off the bench.
- Junior forward Tori Powers (Gate City, Va.) contributed nine points, four rebounds and four steals.

Ferrum Individual Leaders
- Kayla Cabiness led all players with 24 points, adding six rebounds and four assists.
- Aisha Martin had 12 points and four boards while Cameron Hawkins notched 10 points, four steals and three rebounds.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry shot 29-for-66 (43.9%) from the field with 10 three-pointers. The Wasps shot 81 percent (17-for-21) at the free throw line.
- Ferrum made 36.8 percent (25-for-68) of its shots, connecting on nine triples. The Panthers went 8-for-12 (75%) at the stripe.
- Emory & Henry held a 50-35 rebounding advantage and used 13 offensive boards to lead, 14-9, on second-chance points.
- E&H scored 30 points off 24 FC turnovers and also led, 36-28, on points in the paint.
