Emory & Henry Women’s Basketball Faces Radford In Exhibition Contest Thursday

RADFORD, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Basketball Team got the 2021-22 season and the NCAA Division II era underway on Thursday evening with an exhibition game against Radford University. The Highlanders won the contest by a 93-37 score in the first matchup between the two programs since November 8, 2015.

How It Happened
- The Highlanders scored the first eight points of the contest and pushed their way out to a 20-5 lead at the end of the opening period. The second saw E&H begin to find a groove as the Wasps scored six in a row to make it a 31-13 game. RU continued to make the most of their size advantage, leading 43-19 at the half.
- Radford opened the third period on a 12-1 run to lead 55-20, and pushed the margin to 71-30 with 10 minutes left to play. In the fourth, the Highlanders outscored the Wasps by a 22-7 margin on their way to the 93-37 exhibition victory.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Freshman guard Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) scored seven points off the bench in her collegiate debut, adding three rebounds and an assist while junior guard Brylee Jones (Greeneville, Tenn.) had five points, two assists and two steals.
- Freshman forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) went for five points and six boards while senior Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) posted four points and three rebounds in her return to the court after missing the 2020-21 season with an injury.
- Senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) tacked on four points, two rebounds and two steals for the Wasps.

Radford Individual Leaders
- The Highlanders had five players reach double figures in scoring led by Taiye Johnson with 15 points as she went 7-for-7 from the field to go along with eight rebounds.
- Rachel LaLonde scored 14 points and added 10 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks for the double-double as Bridget Birkhead had 12 points, five boards and two assists.
- Jackie Christ and Bryonna McClean added 11 and 10 points, respectively, as McClean recorded four rebounds and three assists.

A Deeper Look
- RU shot 54.8 percent (40-for-73) from the field, hitting seven three-pointers while E&H made just 13-of-65 (20%) of its shots including two triples.
- The Highlanders held a 56-36 rebounding advantage and outscored the Wasps, 23-3, on second-chance points.
- Radford also led 64-18 on points in the paint and 17-0 on fast-break points.

- Emory & Henry will play its final exhibition game on Tuesday when it travels to Cullowhee, North Carolina to match up with Western Carolina University at 7:00 p.m.
