Young Harris Women’s Basketball Rallies Past Emory & Henry, 61-46, Saturday Afternoon

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Young Harris College Women's Basketball Team (6-0) outscored Emory & Henry (3-2) by a 20-2 margin in the fourth quarter on its way to a 61-46 come-from-behind victory Saturday afternoon in a matchup of NCAA Division II Southeast Region programs.

How It Happened
- The squads battled through 12 ties and seven lead changes across the game as the Wasps led 13-12 through one period. In the second, E&H and YHC went back and forth to a 27-all tie at the half.
- Coming out of the break, Emory & Henry went on a 7-2 run to take a 34-29 lead with 7:21 on the clock. The Mountain Lions tied things up again at 39-all before five in a row by the Wasps gave them a 44-39 advantage. E&H would take a 44-41 margin into the final 10 minutes of play.
- The fourth frame saw Emory & Henry go cold from the field with Young Harris scoring 14 in a row to go up 55-44 with 4:40 to go in the game. A single basket by the Wasps queued up a 6-0 run by the Mountain Lions to close the game for the 61-46 final margin.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Senior center Alexis Hoppers (Sparta, N.C.) had 11 points and eight rebounds, adding an assist and a steal while senior guard Callie Haderer (Bristol, Va.) notched nine points, two rebounds and two assists.
- Freshman forward Grace Glance (Clyde, N.C.) posted nine points and four rebounds off the bench while sophomore guard Taylor Owens (Bristol, Tenn.) recorded seven points and four boards.

Young Harris Individual Leaders
- Carly Winters put up a game-high 19 points while Mackenzie Johnson went for 16 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- Niaya White pitched in 10 points, six rebounds and four assists while Kalen Surles had eight points, seven boards, and five assists.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry made just 16-of-53 (30.2%) of its field goal tries with five three-pointers. The Wasps shot 64.3 percent (9-for-13) at the free throw line.
- Young Harris hit 42.6 percent (26-for-61) from the floor, also hitting five triples. The Mountain Lions were 4-for-8 (50%) at the stripe.
- The two squads tied, 38-38, on rebounding as YHC's 11 offensive boards led to a 7-3 margin on second-chance points.
- Young Harris led, 25-8, on points off turnovers, taking advantage of 22 Emory & Henry miscues.
- YHC also led 36-18 on points in the paint.
