No. 14 Catawba Women’s Basketball Defeats Emory & Henry, 90-60, Saturday In Season Finale

EMORY, Va. – The No. 14 Catawba College Women's Basketball Team (22-4, 17-3 SAC) secured the top seed in next week's South Atlantic Conference Tournament with a 90-60 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (10-18, 5-15 SAC) Saturday.

How It Happened
- The two teams battled to a 10-8 Catawba lead at the 6:25 mark of the opening period. The Lady Catawba Indians went on an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to go ahead, 21-10. A pair of threes by the Wasps closed the gap to five but Catawba hit the final bucket of the frame to lead, 23-16.
- Catawba scored the first 10 points of the second and used a 10-2 run later in the quarter to extend its advantage to 21 (43-22). The squads went shot for shot for the final three and a half minutes of the stanza with E&H getting within 16 at 50-34 at the break.
- In the second half, the Lady Indians continued to pull away, scoring 20 points in both the third and fourth periods as they cruised to the 90-60 win.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Sophomore forward Breanna Yarber (Meadowview, Va.) once again led the Wasps, posting 18 points on 7-for-13 shooting with five rebounds, three steals and three blocks.
- Freshman guard Reagan Chapman (Rosman, N.C.) posted a season-high 14 points off the bench, hitting four three-pointers and adding three rebounds while freshman forward Gracyn Hall (Randleman, N.C.) put up seven points and six boards.
- Freshman guard Rhyan Harris (Salem, Va.) posted seven points, two rebounds and two assists as junior forward Emma Santoro (King, N.C.) added six points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks.

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Lyrik Thorne put up a game-high 25 points, going 9-for-10 from the field with five triples. She added five assists, three rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
- Sara McIntosh had nine points, two rebounds and two steals as Nala Baker posted eight points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals. Janiya Foskey tallied eight points and four boards of her own.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry was 21-for-59 (35.6%) from the field with nine three-pointers. The Wasps shot 69.2 percent (9-for-13) at the free throw line.
- Catawba hit 51.5 percent (35-of-68) of its shots with 13 makes from long range. The Lady Indians were 7-for-10 from the charity stripe.
- Catawba held a 40-35 rebounding advantage and outscored E&H by a 44-18 margin on points in the paint.
- The Lady Indians also posted a 42-21 lead on points off turnovers, taking advantage of 32 Wasp miscues.
