Emory & Henry Women’s Golf Wins Buzz-Off Invitational To Close Fall Season Sunday

ABINGDON, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Golf Team picked up its first tournament victory of the year in thrilling fashion Sunday afternoon at the Buzz-Off Invitational. The tournament was held at Glenrochie Country Club.

Emory & Henry
Freshman Lexi Humbert (Greeneville, Tenn.) shot an 84 (+12) to move up one spot, winning the tournament with a score of +28 while sophomore Emily Smelcer (Walland, Tenn.) went for a 90 (+18) on Sunday to drop one spot to third overall.

Freshman Briah Frisbee (Leicester, N.C.) shot 90 (+18) for the second day in a row to hold onto her sixth-place spot while freshman Reece Chasteen (Lake City, Fla.) finished 13th overall (+40) after shooting a 94 (+22) in round two. Sophomore McKenna Quillen (Abingdon, Va.) carded a 99 (+27) to finish the tournament in 15th (+51).

Freshman Maggie Jolly (Troutman, N.C.) shot a 101 for the second day in a row to finish tied for 16th, playing as an individual.

The Leaders
Emory & Henry and Mars Hill University tied at +138 (714) for first place but the Wasps won the tiebreaker on the fifth player's score from round two.

Humbert won the tournament by one shot as the Lions' Chelsea Baker fired a tournament-low of 82 (+10) to jump seven spots to finish at the individual runner-up.

Up Next
The Wasps will resume play in the spring.
