Emory & Henry Women’s Lacrosse Drops Tough 15-10 Decision To Mars Hill

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Lacrosse Team (0-7, 0-2 SAC) battled all afternoon, but eventually fell to Mars Hill University (3-6, 1-2 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference competition Wednesday afternoon inside Fred Selfe Stadium. The Lions earned the win by a 15-10 final score.

The Basics
FINAL SCORE – Mars Hill 15, Emory & Henry 10
LOCATION – Emory, Virginia
VENUE – Fred Selfe Stadium
RECORDS – Emory & Henry (0-7, 0-2 SAC); Mars Hill (3-6, 1-2 SAC)

How It Happened
- The Lions were first on the scoreboard as they tallied a goal with 10:35 on the clock. The Wasps answered back with a pair of goals from junior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.), one assisted by freshman midfielder Cadence Spaulding (Christiansburg, Va.), to take their first lead in SAC play of the season at 2-1. Mars Hill took control through the remainder of the quarter as they scored six unanswered to establish a 7-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
- Hicks struck again just 11 seconds into the second stanza to complete her hat trick and trim into the deficit. MHU put two more on the board to push its lead back out to 9-3, but once more E&H fought back. Freshman midfielder Meg Bruner (Otto, N.C.) scored on an assist from freshman attacker Avery McHargue (Weaverville, N.C.) and fellow freshman attacker Brooklyn Halter (Alcoa, Tenn.) followed suit a minute and a half later with a goal on a free position shot to draw within four at 9-5. The Lions added two more and Hicks found the back of the net just before the halftime break to run the tally to 11-6 at the intermission.
- A Mars Hill goal early in the third made it 12-6 before the Wasps put up three unanswered to charge back into the game. Hicks buried her fifth of the game and McHargue tallied back-to-back scores to bring the score to 12-9. A Lions goal from Haley Stallings made it 13-9 heading into the final frame.
- MHU took control in the final quarter as they slowed down the tempo, scoring the first two goals of the period to push their margin out to 15-9. Hicks scored once more for good measure with just over two minutes to play, but it was not enough as the Lions took the 15-10 victory.
