Newberry Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Emory & Henry, 22-2, Wednesday Evening

NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Newberry College Women's Lacrosse Team (7-6, 5-2 SAC) defeated Emory & Henry College (1-12, 0-7 SAC) in South Atlantic Conference play Wednesday afternoon at Setzler Field. The Wolves earned the win by a 22-2 final score.

How It Happened
- The Wolves took the early lead, scoring 90 seconds into the match. Newberry added six more goals to take a 7-0 advantage into the second quarter. The home team tacked on an additional six scores in the second quarter, as the score stood at 13-0 heading into the halftime break.
- E&H broke through at the 12:15 mark of the third stanza when junior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) buried a shot past the Newberry goalkeeper for her 21st goal of the season to reduce the margin to 14-1. The Wolves scored the next two goals, but Hicks found the back of the net again with just over four minutes to play in the period to run the score to 16-2. Newberry would record the final two tallies of the third to carry an 18-2 advantage entering the final quarter. The Wolves finished with four more in the fourth to take the win by a 22-2 margin. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hicks finished with two goals, two draw controls and a ground ball while freshman midfielder Bri Leech (Forest, Va.) had a pair of ground balls and a caused turnover. Freshman midfielder Cadence Spaulding (Christiansburg, Va.) recorded a pair of draw controls and a ground ball.
- Freshman goalkeeper Madison Rossi-Dupas (Kingston, Tenn.) had 11 saves, increasing her season total to 77 to place her fifth in the SAC, and a ground ball in between the pipes for the Wasps. 

Newberry Individual Leaders
- Marissa Plumer and Jadie Burns each posted three goals to lead the Wolves' offensive attack. Cassell Richardson had two goals and four assists for a match-high six total points.
- Mackenzie Door registered four saves to earn the win while Cheyenne Jess had a pair of saves in relief in goal.

- Emory & Henry steps out of conference play on Monday, April 8 when they make the trip to take on the Trojans of Virginia State University. First draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. from Ettrick, Virginia.
