How It Happened
- The Trojans took the early lead, tallying the first six goals of the match. Junior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) broke the scoring run with an unassisted goal on the player-up advantage, her 23rd of the year, to make it 6-1. VSU would take a 7-1 advantage into the second quarter. Hicks struck again just 44 seconds into the second stanza on an assist from junior attacker Gracie Sage (Duffield, Va.) to reduce the deficit to five. After two goals from the Trojans, the Wasps responded with a pair of tallies. Freshman attacker Brooklyn Halter (Alcoa, Tenn.) recorded her sixth of the year on a pass from freshman midfielder Cadence Spaulding (Christiansburg, Va.) and Hicks completed her hat trick 30 seconds later to run the score to 9-4. The home team had a burst of three straight, but Spaulding found the back of the net just before halftime on a pass from Hicks and the margin stood at 12-5 in favor of VSU at the half.
- VSU once again began the second half the same way they began the first, scoring the first three goals of the stanza. Hicks continued her scoring barrage with her fourth of the night at the 1:01 mark and followed up with another 30 seconds later on a free-position shot to trim the deficit to 15-7. The Trojans would tack on three more goals in the final quarter for the 18-7 victory.
