Emory & Henry Women's Lacrosse Drops 20-6 Decision to Catawba

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Lacrosse Team (1-14, 0-8 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference play to Catawba College (3-11, 2-6 SAC) Wednesday afternoon. The Lady Catawba Indians led the whole way as they took the win by a 20-6 final score.

How It Happened
- Catawba tallied the first two scores of the game, but the Wasps responded with a goal on a free-position shot at the 11:34 mark by sophomore midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) to make it 2-1. The Lady Catawba Indians would record the next seven goals to balloon their lead out to 9-1. Junior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) broke up the streak with a man-up free-position goal to reduce the deficit to 9-2. Catawba registered three straight scores, but Hicks found the back of the net with 15 seconds remaining in the half to send the match into the break with a score of 12-3.
- The visitors scored the first two goals of the half, but Jones posted her second of the day with 8:07 to play in the quarter to draw within 14-4. Catawba continued to pour it on with five unanswered until Jones once again broke up the rally with back-to-back scores to run the score to 19-6. The Lady Catawba Indians would add one more with 1:25 to play for the 20-6 win. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Jones paced the Wasps' offensive attack with four goals and four draw controls. Hicks finished with two goals, one assist, two ground balls and a pair of draw controls. Freshman midfielders Cadence Spaulding (Christiansburg, Va.) and Meg Bruner (Otto, N.C.) each posted two ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.
- Freshman goalkeeper Madison Rossi-Dupas (Kingston, Tenn.) registered eight saves and a match-high five ground balls in goal. 

Catawba Individual Leaders
- Ella McCusker and Abby Shuren each finished with a team-high four goals. Helena Cronemiller, Sarah Maier, Jenna Hirvonen, Charlize Skepple and Meredith Marchetti all recorded a pair of goals in the win.
- Evie Kauserud had three saves to earn the win while Elli Ferraro posted one in relief.

- Emory & Henry returns to South Atlantic Conference play on Wednesday, April 10 when the Wasps host the Catawba College Lady Catawba Indians. First draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from Fred Selfe Stadium.
