Tusculum Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Emory & Henry, 24-3, In SAC Play

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Lacrosse Team (1-15, 0-9 SAC) fell in South Atlantic Conference play to Tusculum University (5-10, 3-6 SAC) Saturday afternoon inside of Fred Selfe Stadium. The Pioneers took the win by a 24-3 final score.

How It Happened
- The Pioneers took control of the match early, scoring the first six goals of the afternoon. The Wasps broke through with 2:34 to play in the opening quarter when sophomore midfielder Justyce Jones (Jacksonville, N.C.) buried a free-position shot to reduce the deficit to 6-1. Tusculum answered with seven straight scores to push its lead out to 13-1. Junior attacker Mina Hicks (Lexington Park, Md.) broke the streak with a man-up tally at the 7:14 mark of the second quarter. The Pioneers added three more goals to take the 16-2 advantage into the halftime break.
- Jones opened up the second half scoring just over two minutes into the stanza as she found the back of the net on an assist from Hicks. TU scored the final eight tallies of the match to earn the 24-3 victory. 

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Jones paced the Wasps with two goals, one ground ball, one draw control and a caused turnover. Hicks added one goal, one assist, two ground balls and a draw control. Sophomore defender Riley Firebaugh (Roanoke, Va.) had two caused turnovers, one ground ball and a draw control while freshman attacker Brooklyn Halter (Alcoa, Tenn.) finished with a pair of caused turnovers.
- Freshman goalkeeper Madison Rossi-Dupas (Kingston, Tenn.) registered seven saves and a match-high five ground balls in goal. 

Tusculum Individual Leaders
- Cassidy Bourne led the Pioneers with four goals, one assist, three ground balls, one draw control and a caused turnover. Liberty Jones, Kylie Marek and Zuza Stasiak each finished with three goals while Lucy Brewer stuffed the stat sheet with two goals, four assists, four ground balls, 11 draw controls and three caused turnovers.
- Emily White had three saves in goal to earn the win. Mackie McCotter and Riley Vergano combined for one save in relief.

- Emory & Henry wraps up its inaugural season on Wednesday, April 17 when the Wasps make the trip to Harrogate, Tennessee to take on Lincoln Memorial University. First draw is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. from the LMU Lacrosse Complex.
