Emory & Henry Men’s Wrestling Competes At Star City Classic Saturday

SALEM, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Wrestling Team returned to action in the Star City Classic presented by the USMC Saturday. Eight different wrestlers took to the mat for the Wasps as the team competed in its first tournament in program history.

165-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Dalton Biggs (Galax, Va.) picked up a win in the first round, pinning Averett's Joseph Lombay in 2:52. Biggs fell to Shenandoah's Hunter Thompson in the quarterfinals midway through the second period and also competed against SU's Thomas Domerese in the consolation bracket.
- Freshman Matt Cox (Marion, Va.) took on Anthony Reese and Alex Turley, both of Averett on the day.

174-Pound Weight Class
- Sophomore Brenden Blevins (Troutdale, Va.) fell in his opening round bout to Dylan Weaver of Shenandoah and came up short against AU's Jovante Hobbs in the second consolation round.

197-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Josh Brooks (Monroe, Va.) opened his day with a pin in 39 seconds over David Thomas of Ferrum. He lost by major decision, 18-4, to Averett's William Baldwin in the quarterfinals before suffering a 12-7 setback to Liberty University's Jesse Redding in the consolation bracket.

285-Pound Weight Class
- Junior Donovan Pinnix (Eden, N.C.) got the action started with a pin of Blue Lights' Deshawn Jones in 1:34 before losing early in the second round to Trent Ragland of Averett. Pinnix picked up a win over teammate freshman Blaze Hughes (Chilhowie, Va.) and advanced after a medical forfeit. Pinnix saw his day end in the consolation semifinals, falling to Shenandoah's Anthony Olsen
- Sophomore Wade Wheeler (Amherst, Va.) dropped his opening round match to Olsen and received a bye to the second consolation round. He earned a decision victory over Ferrum's Rayshawn Dixon, 12-9, before exiting the tournament with an injury.
- Freshman Austin McBee (Shelbyville, Tenn.) took a first-round loss at the hands of Liberty's Rick Weaver before defeating Averett's Caleb Calhoun in the first consolation round. His day ended in second consolation round via fall to Ferrum's George Mitchell.
- Hughes fell to Jeff Allen of Liberty in the first round and after receiving a bye to the second consolation round, took a loss to teammate Pinnix.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will return to the mat on Wednesday when it visits Ferrum College. The first bout is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
