Emory & Henry Men’s Wrestling Competes At Averett Open Sunday

E&H wrestler looks to flip his opponent.

DANVILLE, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Wrestling Team finished 11th out of 20 competing programs at the Averett Open on Sunday. The Wasps saw a pair of wrestlers earn top-four finishes on the day.

125-Pound Weight Class
- Freshmen Hayden Durussell (Watsontown, Pa.) and Tito Hernandez (Shelbyville, Tenn.) fell in their opening matches of the day.

133-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Avery Almany (Bristol, Va.) dropped his first-round match.

141-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Isaiah Dotson (Jonesville, Va.) lost by pin in 4:58.

149-Pound Weight Class
- Freshmen Bryan Carter (Bedford, Va.) and Skyler Rouse (Marion, Va.) both came up short in their bouts.

157-Pound Weight Class
- Freshman Levi Field (Manassas, Va.) finished fourth, winning his first match by decision, 11-9, and pinning his second opponent in 1:26. In the semifinals, he fell in 5:00 and lost a 10-9 decision in the third-place bout.

165-Pound Weight Class
- Sophomores Matt Cox (Marion, Va.) and Matt Allen (Oakton, Va.) lost by fall.

285-Pount Weight Class
- Junior Wade Wheeler (Amherst, Va.) tied for third on the day. He opened the competition with a victory by fall and won his quarterfinal-round match by a 4-0 decision. He lost in the semifinals, 5-2, and the third-place match went uncontested.
- Junior Thomas Roberts (Luttrell, Tenn.) and sophomore Austin McBee (Shelbyville, Tenn.) also saw action at 285.

Up Next
- Emory & Henry will be back in action on Wednesday, December 1 when it hosts St. Andrews University in a doubleheader with the Wasps' women's team.
