Emory & Henry Men’s Wrestling Competes At NCWA National Championships

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Emory & Henry College Men's Wrestling Team concluded the 2022-23 season over the weekend at the NCWA National Championships. The Wasps finished in a tie for 45th place in the field with just three competing wrestlers.

125-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Tito Hernandez (Shelbyville, Tenn.) dropped his opening round match by technical fall before picking up a win by fall over Liam Campbell of UMass in the consolation round of 32. Hernandez then earned another win by fall over Springfield Tech's Mark Zavatkay in the first round of 16 consolation match. He then bowed out in the second round of 16 consolations to Avian Martinez of Treasure Valley Community College. 

157-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Levi Field (Manassas, Va.) opened the tournament with a loss by decision (8-6) to Adolfo Delacruz of Sacramento State. He then dropped his first match of the consolation round by a 10-9 decision to Florida's Hayden McCandless. 

174-Pound Weight Class
Sophomore Tony Washington, Jr. (Cordova, Tenn.) won his opening match by fall over Florida A&M's Ashley Saddler before dispatching Nicholas Gallina of Northeastern by fall in the second championship round. Washington, Jr. then fell to defending National Champion Josh Kenny of Grand Valley State by technical fall in the third round. He bowed out of the tournament with a loss by fall to Northeastern's Thomas Czartoryski in the consolation bracket.
