EMORY, Va. - Emory & Henry College Head Men's & Women's Wrestling Coach Pete Hansen is pleased to announce that Jeramiah Hampton is joining the staff as an assistant coach. Hampton comes to Emory & Henry after two years of head coaching experience at the NJCAA level at nearby Southwest Virginia Community College.

In his two years as the Head Men's Wrestling Coach at Southwest Virginia Community College, Hampton coached four national qualifiers, one district champion, one NJCAA All-American (Austin Suess – 197), and two NWCA Scholar All-Americans (Billy-Jack Cupp and Austin Suess 2023).

"This is a huge addition to our coaching staff," commented Hansen. "I have known Coach Hampton for a few years now, and during that time I have always been impressed with the way he handled himself and his student-athletes. Even when he was the head coach at Southwest Virginia Community College, he was invested in the growth of Emory & Henry's program. We would hold joint practices and his wealth of knowledge of wrestling was evident. He will not only make us better at on the mat but also in life."

Hampton attended Alleghany High School in Sparta, North Carolina, graduating in 2007. He posted a high-school record of 135-35 and was four-time all-conference, two-time all-state, two-time regional finalist and one-time region champion. He was the most outstanding wrestler of the state dual tournament in 2007, the 1A/2A Northwest Conference Wrestler of the Year as a junior and a senior and most outstanding wrestler of the conference tournament in 2005 and 2006. Hampton was named most outstanding wrestler on back-to-back state championship teams in 2006 and 2007.

He ranked as the 19th overall prospect (regardless of division) in the state of North Carolina his senior year according to N.C. Wrestling Scout Report. He was a two-time Agie Skeens Memorial finalist (one-time champion). Hampton received multiple college offers before a knee injury his senior year that led him to have surgery and subsequently join the United States Marine Corps. During his time in the Marine Corps Hampton gained experience with several forms of wrestling including freestyle, Greco-Roman, catch wrestling, and submission grappling. He also earned a Black Belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. Hampton also has experience refereeing, assisting with clinics, as well as training and coaching at the elementary, middle school, and high school level.

He holds a full-time position at Marion Correctional Treatment Center as the Director of Recreational Therapy/Coordinator of Interns/Volunteer Services. He is a Marine Corps and Afghanistan War Veteran and holds both a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science and a Master of Business Administration which he earned from Concordia University, St. Paul in 2015 and 2019, respectively.
