Emory & Henry Men’s Wrestling Competes At NCWA National Championships

BOSSIER CITY, La. – The Emory & Henry College Men's Wrestling Team wrapped up its 2023-24 season Saturday afternoon as the Wasps competed at the NCWA National Championships in Bossier City, Louisiana. E&H finished tied for 55th as a team out of the field of 89 squads.

165 Pounds
- Freshman Sebastian Gaberrete (Jeffersonton, Va.) received a bye in the first championship round before defeating Jason Goldstein of RPI by a 21-4 technical fall in the round of 32. He then followed up with a win by fall in the round of 16, pinning Wayne State College's Gavin Zoucha in 2:46. Gaberrete came up short in the quarterfinals as he dropped a 23-5 technical fall to top-seeded Gavin O'Dell of Bellarmine. His championship ended with a 14-10 loss to Landon Kissell of The Apprentice School in the consolation round of eight. 

174 Pounds
- Freshman A.J. Marshall (Culpeper, Va.) received an opening-round bye as the number four overall seed then pinned Maine's Thomas Kelly in 5:36 to advance to the round of 16. Marshall fell by a 12-6 decision to Charles Roche of Central Florida before exiting the competition with a 3-1 loss to Junior Santos of Puerto Rico - Rio Piedras in the consolation round of 16. 

184 Pounds
- Freshman Tristan Lorenz (Fries, Va.) lost by fall in 1:17 to MIT's Samuel Calvert in the round of 64 before being pinned in 6:42 by Nathan Schobel of the Maine Maritime Academy in the consolation round of 32.
