Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Downs Randolph, 3-0, Saturday On The Road

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (2-8-1, 2-2-1 ODAC) got a pair of goals from senior midfielder Jessi Biggs (Vienna, Va.) Saturday afternoon en route to defeating Randolph College (2-7, 0-4 ODAC) by a 3-0 score. With the win, the Wasps pick up points in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings for the third time in four matches.

Emory & Henry got on the board just before the half-hour mark. Biggs took a pass from freshman defender Willow Hubbard (Asheville, N.C.) and put a shot on goal from 30 yards out that floated over the goalkeeper for the 1-0 score.

The Wasps made it 2-0 at the 40:07 mark. After the WildCat defense failed to clear out a corner kick, sophomore midfielder Natalie Bright (Lynchburg, Va.) found the ball at her feet and put it in the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.

The margin remained at 2-0 until Biggs got her second goal of the match. Sophomore midfielder Blair Vaughn (Gate City, Va.) took the throw in and found Biggs, who headed it home for the score.

Emory & Henry outshot Randolph, 23-11, and was strong on the attack, slipping offside on five different occasions in the match. The Wasps were the more aggressive team with nine fouls compared to two for the WildCats. The battle for corner kicks was tied, 5-5.

E&H senior goalkeeper Sarah Jerome (Charlotte, N.C.) earned her third clean sheet in four matches as she made seven saves on the afternoon. Caitlin Annunziata stopped 12 shots for Randolph.

Emory & Henry will travel to Harrisonburg, Va. next Saturday for an ODAC tilt with Eastern Mennonite University. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
