Virginia Wesleyan Women’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 6-0, Saturday Afternoon

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan College Women's Soccer Team (11-4-2, 8-3 ODAC) scored four goals in the second half en route to a 6-0 victory over Emory & Henry College (4-12-1, 4-6-1 ODAC) Saturday afternoon.

The Marlins got on the board midway through the eighth minute as Annie Hartman crossed a ball into Allie Ketzler for the first goal. VWC made it 2-0 13 minutes later as Kristen Mack scored an unassisted goal.

Emory & Henry played solidly for the next 30 minutes even though they were unable to find their attackers to set up scoring opportunities.

Virginia Wesleyan pushed the lead to 4-0 as Hartman notched a pair of goals just 1:16 apart from one another. Marta Deptula and Kayela Gray each tallied goals late in the match for the final 6-0 margin.

The Marlins outshot the Wasps, 24-1, and held a 12-2 advantage on corner kicks. E&H forced VWC to be called offside on three different occasions.

Emory & Henry senior goalkeeper Sarah Jerome (Charlotte, N.C.) tallied 12 saves in the match despite the loss while Virginia Wesleyan's Megan Gerhart made one save in the shutout victory.

The Wasps will return home on Tuesday afternoon for their regular season finale. E&H will take on Hollins University at 7:30 p.m., with a berth in the 2013 ODAC Tournament on the line.
