Maryville Women’s Soccer Defeats Emory & Henry, 4-0, Friday

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The Maryville (Tenn.) College Women's Soccer Team (1-0) scored three goals in the first half en route to a 4-0 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (0-1) Friday evening at the MC Soccer Field.

Kaitlyn Kennedy put Maryville on the board in the 35th minute with an unassisted goal while Gabby Billstrom made it 2-0 at the 38:18 mark when she took a pass from Sierra Siegel and put it home. The Scots would go into the half with a 3-0 advantage thanks to Casey Gentile's goal late in the 42nd minute.

After the break, the two squads battled to control possession for the majority of the second half with Maryville adding the fourth and final goal with just over 14 minutes remaining in the contest. Allyson Hale's pass found Grace Puryear, who placed it in the back of the net.

Emory & Henry had five shots on goal, led by freshman midfielder Madison Vaughn (Gate City, Va.) two chances on frame. Senior forward Bethany Myer (Hickory, N.C.), senior midfielder Maddy Guzman (Cleveland, Ohio) and sophomore midfielder Gabby Paspa (Hickory, N.C.) each had opportunities as well.

Though the Scots held a 19-9 advantage on shots and an 8-0 margin on corner kicks, the E&H defense forced them into an offside position on five different occasions, putting a halt to the Maryville attack.

E&H sophomore goalkeeper Vicki Fenley (Chesapeake, Va.) made four saves despite the loss while the Maryville trio of Rachel Taylor, Megan Nugent and Mandy Marshall collaborated for five saves and the combined shutout.

Emory & Henry remains on the road on Saturday when it takes on the Lions of Piedmont College on the Maryville campus. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
