Shenandoah Women’s Soccer Rallies To Defeat Emory & Henry, 4-1, Saturday Afternoon

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University Women's Soccer Team (6-9-1, 6-4 ODAC) scored three goals in a 13-minute span late in the second half to defeat visiting Emory & Henry College (3-11, 2-7 ODAC) by a 4-1 score Saturday afternoon in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action.

Emory & Henry got on the board 15:12 in to the contest when senior forward Bethany Myer (Hickory, N.C.) ripped a shot past the goalkeeper.

Averi Rosena leveled the score, 1-1, for the Hornets in the 33rd minute, taking a pass from Catherine Major, who was credited with the assist.

The score would remain tied at one through the end of the first half. Most of the opening 45 minutes was played in the midfield as only there were only eight shots prior to the intermission. The first 25 minutes of the second half were like much of the first half with the two squads battling for advantage.

Shenandoah finally broke through with 18:26 to go in the contest with Major on the receiving end of a pass by Alysha McCleaf for the 2-1 advantage.

The Hornets made it 3-1 in the 84th minute on a goal by McCleaf with Danielle Burriss getting acknowledged for the setup pass.  SU added an insurance goal 56 seconds later to make the final margin 4-1. Michelle Krause got the score while McCleaf earned her second assist of the afternoon.

Shenandoah held a 15-5 shot advantage in the contest but was called offside on seven different occasions. Emory & Henry held a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks.

Nicole Pratt earned the win for SU making one save in 70:39 in goal after relieving Erin Septer in the 20th minute. Wasp sophomore Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) suffered the loss making one save in her second-half appearance.

Emory & Henry will remain on the road on Wednesday when it travels to Greensboro, North Carolina for a 5:30 p.m., ODAC matchup with the Quakers of Guilford College. The contest will be part of a doubleheader with the E&H and GC men's teams.
