Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Picked Ninth In ODAC Preseason Poll

FOREST, Va. – As Emory & Henry College begins its 2016-17 academic year, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference has released the women’s soccer preseason coaches’ poll. This year, the Wasps finds themselves picked to finish ninth out of the 13 teams in the league.

“We are excited to compete in the ever-strong ODAC,” said Head Coach Linda Schirmeister-Gess, who is now in her fifth year at Emory & Henry. “While our schedule takes an unusual appearance this year due to changes within the conference, our goals remain the same.”

Lynchburg College is picked win its seventh-straight ODAC title and ninth in the past 10 years, earning 11 first-place votes. Washington and Lee University is second with another first-place vote. The split between third and sixth was only seven points as Shenandoah University, Virginia Wesleyan College, Bridgewater College and Roanoke College took those place, respectively. BC picked up the final first-place vote.

“We aim to make the ODAC Tournament and compete each night to give us the best opportunity to do this. We are looking forward to some massive conference home games this year and truly making a stand at Fred Selfe Stadium,” Gess added.

Emory & Henry will begin the season on Friday, September 2 when it faces Chatham University in the Marymount Invitational at 7:30 p.m. The Wasps will face the host Saints of Marymount University on Saturday, September 3 at 4:30 p.m.
