Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Earns 1-0 Win Over Eastern Mennonite Wednesday At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (3-5) got an early goal which propelled it to a 1-0 win over Eastern Mennonite University (3-3-1) Wednesday evening at home. Though the Royals and Wasps are both members of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, the match was played as a non-conference contest due to the league's scheduling matrix for 2016.

How It Happened
- Sophomore forward Gillian Hogg (Richmond, Va.) put E&H on the board at the 8:32 mark of the game, squaring up a shot from nearly 30 yards out to beat the goalkeeper on the high side.
- The Royals earned eight corners in the opening 45 minutes, but the Wasps' defense played strongly and preserved the 1-0 advantage.
- Emory & Henry nearly doubled its lead just moments into the second half. After earning a corner kick, the Wasps got two shots from inside the six-yard box but the first attempt was blocked and the second was saved by the goalkeeper.
- With 17:19 remaining, senior midfielder Samantha Sampson (Salem, Va.) played a clinical give-and-go combination with sophomore midfielder Robbi Rodemann (Evington, Va.), however Sampson's shot was corralled and the final score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Wasps.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Hogg posted a match-high three shots, putting two of her attempts on frame, including the match-winner.
- Sampson added a pair of shots on goal while senior forward Emily Welch (Pamplin, Va.) and junior midfielder Christina Ameen (Sweetwater, Tenn.) also had two shots.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Kieran Liseski (Mooresville, N.C.) picked up her second clean sheet in three tries, making two saves in 90 minutes in goal.

Eastern Mennonite Individual Leaders
- Laura Rittenhouse had two shots for the Royals while Mikaela Zook and Emily Hostetler added a shot on goal each.
- Emily Young and Leah Wenger split the match evenly in goal with Young making two saves and Wenger stopping four shots.

A Deeper Look
- Emory & Henry held a 12-6 lead on shots in the match including a 7-2 margin on shots on goal.
- EMU earned nine corner kicks in the match, eight of which came in the first half, while E&H took four corners, all of them after the break.
- The Royals were called offside on four different occasions while the Wasps' attackers only committed one infraction.

- This marks the third year in a row that the Wasps have earned a result against the Royals and the second win in three seasons.
