Southern Virginia Women’s Soccer Rallies Past Emory & Henry, 2-1, Tuesday Afternoon

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Southern Virginia University Women's Soccer Team (3-5-1, 0-1 CAC) rallied from a goal down late in the first half to pick up a 2-1 win over visiting Emory & Henry College (2-6, 1-0 ODAC) Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference match.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry kicked off the scoring early in the 24th minute on a goal by senior forward Christina Ameen (Sweetwater, Tenn.). Sophomore forward Ashley Love (Zirconia, N.C.) crossed a ball in front of the face of the goal for Ameen, who slotted it for the score.
- The Knights equalized 13 minutes later (36:26) on an unassisted goal by Alli Rigby, who struck a ball from 30 yards out for the score.
- SVU took the lead, 2-1, with just 13 seconds to go before halftime. Cyanne Smith served up a corner kick that found the head of Kora Jewell for the goal.
- The second half would go scoreless as the Knights came away with the come-from-behind victory.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Ameen paced the Wasps, scoring from off the bench while freshman forward Kelci Horner (Salem, Va.) registered a pair of attempts.
- Junior goalkeeper Kieran Liseski (Mooresville, N.C.) stopped five shots in the second half for the Wasps while senior Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) made one save in the first half.

Southern Virginia Leaders
- Rigby and Jewell both had five shots in the contest, leading to one goal each. Rigby put four of her chances on target why Smith also had four shots.
- Merideth Ouellette made one save as she earned the complete-game win in goal.

A Deeper Look
- SVU outshot Emory & Henry, 21-6, in the contest including an 8-2 margin on shots on goal.
- The Knights took a pair of corner kicks in each half while the Wasps earned just two corners in the contest.
- Both squads were flagged three times for offside violations.
