Virginia Wesleyan Women’s Soccer Tops Emory & Henry, 4-0, Saturday Afternoon

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Wesleyan University Women's Soccer Team (11-5-1, 7-1 ODAC) remained in a tie atop the Old Dominion Athletic Conference standings with a 4-0 victory against Emory & Henry College (4-10-1, 3-4-1 ODAC) Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
- The Marlins broke into the scoring column in the 18th minute as Marli Hayward scored off a pass inside the six-yard box from Book Adamchak.
- VWU scored two quick goals to make the score 3-0 at the intermission. Ryan Applewhite took a pass from Sarah Heinbaugh with 4:33 on the clock. Applewhite returned the favor, finding Heinbaugh 66 seconds later for a score.
- With 13:47 left to play in the contest, Virginia Wesleyan added the final goal from Kennedy Skala, assisted by Madison Sanders.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Sophomore forward Ashley Love (Zirconia, N.C.) had a shot on goal while junior midfielder Robbi Rodemann (Evington, Va.) added an attempt.
- Senior goalkeeper Kayla Wright (Franklin County, Va.) made seven saves, playing the entire contest in frame.

Virginia Wesleyan Leaders
- Alex Davidson led the Marlins with six shots while Hayward put up five shots including three on target.
- Applewhite and Heinbaugh each notched a goal and an assist.
- Alicia Zamora earned the complete-match shutout, making one save.

A Deeper Look
- VWU outshot E&H, 23-2, and posted an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks.
- The Marlins were called offside twice in the contest while the Wasps were flagged once.
