Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Battles Milligan To A Scoreless Draw Sunday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (0-1-1) went toe-to-toe with Milligan College (0-2-1) for 110 minutes Sunday afternoon, ending the contest in a scoreless draw.

The result was a big departure from last year's meeting between the Wasps and Buffaloes, as MC took the 2017 matchup by a 6-0 score.

How It Happened
- After an evenly matched first half, Milligan came out of the break on the attack. The Buffaloes outshot the Wasps by a 14-4 margin in the second 45 and held an 8-1 advantage on corner kicks. Emory & Henry's goalkeeper and defense, however, held solid, turning away six shots on target to force overtime.
- In the first overtime, MC had several chances to convert the match-winner, but E&H sophomore goalkeeper Kaela Schlevensky (Haymarket, Va.) continued to be strong in net.
- After a pair of late opportunities for E&H in the first overtime were turned away, the two squads completed the contest with a final extra period. Milligan again put the pressure on the Wasp defense, but was unable to find the back of the net for the 0-0 tie.

Emory & Henry Leaders
- Schlevensky finished the match with a career-high 14 saves, earning the shutout.
- Freshman midfielder Yasmin Thorpe (Mount Airy, Md.) put two of her shots on goal while junior forward Graysen Barrs (Abingdon, Va.) and freshman midfielder Jill Nix (Mechanicsville, Va.) each added shots on target.

Milligan Leaders
- Ashlen Burch posted five shots with three on goal to lead the Buffaloes while Isabella Crawford, Amy Long and Dharma Fawbush each had four shots.
- Eva Bower made four saves to pick up the shutout for Milligan.

A Deeper Look
- For the match, MC held a 30-10 shot advantage with a 14-4 lead on shots on goal.
- The Buffaloes took eight corner kicks to the Wasps two but were called offside three times.
