Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Tops Brevard, 1-0, In Season Opener Thursday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (1-0) opened the NCAA Division II era with a 1-0 victory against Brevard College (0-1) Thursday evening at home.

How It Happened
- The Wasps got on the board late in the 22nd minute as junior midfielder Grace Williams (Earlysville, Va.) played a pass ahead for freshman forward Camilla Dobraniecki (Chesapeake, Va.), who one-timed it from the top of the box to the back post for the score.
- Emory & Henry nearly made it a 2-0 contest with 7:29 left to play when Dobraniecki was fouled in the penalty area. Junior defender Ashlee Jordan (Boones Mill, Va.) was called on to take the penalty, but Brevard goalkeeper Rebeccah Rojas guessed correctly and kept the score 1-0.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- Junior midfielder Helen Frazier (Vienna, Va.) led all players with four shots while senior forward Callie McMurray (Gate City, Va.) and sophomore forward Adrienne Harris (Hillsville, Va.) each posted three chances.
- Junior goalkeeper Natalie Capone (Kannapolis, N.C.) earned the clean sheet, making two saves.

Brevard Individual Leaders
- Rojas made seven saves in net despite allowing the lone goal of the match.
- Ashley Royster tallied a pair of shots for the Tornados.
