Emory & Henry Women’s Soccer Takes Down Carolina Univ., 5-3, Sunday Afternoon At Home

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Soccer Team (7-2-2) assured itself of its first winning season since 2011 on Sunday as it picked up a 5-3 win over Carolina University (5-8) to conclude Homecoming weekend.

How It Happened
- Emory & Henry opened the scoring midway through the 32nd minute as freshman midfielder Karlijn Keuters (The Hague, NETHERLANDS) hit a strike from 25 yards out on the right side.
- The Bruins equalized just two minutes later as Mary Jester played a ball in from the right corner to the back post for Angie Hernandez-Victorino to slot in at the back post.
- With just 3:41 to go before the intermission, freshman forward Camilla Dobraniecki (Chesapeake, Va.) put E&H back ahead as she settled a loose ball inside the six-yard box and sent it home for a 2-1 lead.
- In the second half, the Wasps went ahead 3-1 at the 49:46 mark on a goal by sophomore forward Adrienne Harris (Hillsville, Va.) that she shot from the right side of the box. Freshman midfielder Olivia Haynes (Spotsylvania, Va.) was credited with the assist.
- E&H pushed the margin to 4-1 in the 52nd minute as Harris got on the helping side of things, finding junior forward Amber Altice (Rocky Mount, Va.) with a pass inside the six-yard box that she put in the back of the net.
- Carolina Univ. bounced back less than two minutes later as Savannah Placie scored from inside the six-yard box with Natasha Mariam earning the assist.
- The Wasps got their fifth goal from senior forward Callie McMurray (Gate City, Va.) with 27:52 to play as she went down the left flank, turned in at the end line and shot to the back post for the 5-2 advantage.
- In the 78th minute, the Bruins capped the scoring as Sarah Walters finished a cross from the right side from Aaliyah Rubio after a failed clearance on a corner kick.

Emory & Henry Individual Leaders
- McMurray posted a match-high eight shots with two going on target while Altice put two of her five chances on frame.
- Harris notched a goal and an assist with three shots while Haynes posted three shots on goal.
- Junior Natalie Capone (Kannapolis, N.C.) made three saves in goal, playing the full 90 minutes.

Carolina Univ. Individual Leaders
- Walters put up her goal on a team-best two shots while Placie and Hernandez-Victorino scored on their only attempts of the afternoon.
- Zee Ventura suffered the loss despite making 11 saves.
