Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Rolls Over Ferrum, 115-56, Friday Evening In First Home Meet

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (1-0) picked up a 115-56 victory over Ferrum College (0-1) Friday afternoon at the Emory & Henry Aquatics Center. The win comes in the first dual meet of the program's varsity era.

Emory & Henry won all 11 events on the day and went one-two in three races, as no Ferrum swimmer finished in front of a blue-and-gold cap.

All 11 races established school records for the Wasps as freshman Lauren Frizzell (Blacksburg, Va.) led the way with wins in the 200-meter (2:15.73), 400-meter (4:42.35) and 800-meter (10:07.22) freestyle.

In the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle, freshman Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) clocked times of :28.37 and 1:02.89, respectively.

The Wasps also got strong performances in each of the strokes. Freshman Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) won the 100-meter butterfly with a 1:12.87, freshman Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) finished first in the 100-meter backstroke (1:14.56) and freshman Tyler Ann Herron (Calhoun, Ga.) touched the wall first in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:25.34).

Guardalabene also won the 200-meter individual medley with a 2:45.74 with freshman Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) finishing second (2:48.26).

E&H took both relays easily as Ferrum did not swim either event. The 200-meter medley relay was won as Brown, Herron, Powell and Shirey went 2:16.53 and the 200-meter freestyle relay squad of Guardalabene, Brown, Herron and freshman Sophia Alonge (Vienna, Va.) put up a time of 2:06.03.

Emory & Henry will return to the pool next Friday when it travels to Roanoke, Va. to face Hollins University for its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest. The meet is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.
