Emory & Henry Women's Swimming Takes Down Hollins, 156-99, Friday Afternoon

ROANOKE, Va. - The Emory & Henry Women's Swimming Team won 13 of 14 events on the day as it defeated Hollins University, 156-99, Friday afternoon in a matchup of Old Dominion Athletic Conference squads. The Wasps move to 2-0 (1-0 ODAC) on the year in dual meets and set 13 new school records against the Green-and-Gold squad which had 25 swimmers.

Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) and Lauren Frizzell (Blacksburg, Va.) each had three individual wins for E&H, setting a trio of school records each in the process. Guardalabene won the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.28), the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.28) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:21.84). Frizzell's wins came in the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.22), the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:53.94) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:21.83).

Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) broke her own school records in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, swimming a :25.19 and a :56.81, respectively, to win both races.

Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) won the 100-yard backstroke, clocking a 1:09.78, while Tyler Ann Herron (Calhoun, Ga.) finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:16.63 and Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) touched the wall with a 2:29.06 in the 200-yard butterfly to win the event.

E&H also picked up wins in the 400-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay. The medley team of Brown, Herron, Shirey and Guardalabene registered a 4:30.60 for a new team record.

The Wasps will return to the pool next Saturday when they travel to Sweet Briar, Va. to face off against the Vixens of Sweet Briar College and the Quakers of Guilford College in ODAC competition. The first event is scheduled for noon.
