Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Sweeps Double-Dual Meet Saturday

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team picked up a pair of dual meet victories over Old Dominion Athletic Conference opponents Saturday at Sweet Briar College's Prothro Natatorium. The Wasps defeated the Vixens of Sweet Briar, 60-35, and the Quakers of Guilford College, 67-21, despite only having six swimmers in action.

Emory & Henry won nine of 11 events against Sweet Briar, who was picked to finish third this year at the ODAC Championships. The Wasps took home 10 of 11 races against the Quakers and went 1-2 in five different events. E&H's dual meet record now stands at 4-0 with a 3-0 mark against league competition.

The 200-meter medley relay team of Lauren Frizzell (Blacksburg, Va.), Sophia Alonge (Vienna, Va.), Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) and Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) set a school record with their swim of 2:13.76 to lead off the meet.

Guardalabene posted a pair of individual wins where she set school records in the 200-meter individual medley (2:37.57) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:10.71).

Shirey earned two individual wins in the sprint freestyle events, clocking times of :28.49 and 1:04.77 in the 50- and 100-meter free, respectively.

Frizzell also won two individual events, the 200-meter freestyle (2:15.83) and the 400-meter freestyle (4:49.88).

Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) (800-meter freestyle) and Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.) (100-meter backstroke) took home first-place finishes as well.

Emory & Henry will return to the E&H Aquatics Center on Friday afternoon when it faces King (Tenn.) College in non-conference action at 4:00 p.m.
