Emory & Henry Women’s Swimming Keeps Rolling With A 96-83 Win Over King Friday

EMORY, Va. – The Emory & Henry College Women's Swimming Team (5-0) picked up a 96-83 win over visiting King (Tenn.) College Friday afternoon at the E&H Aquatics Center. The Wasps only had six swimmers in action for a second-straight weekend, but were still able to get the best of their NCAA Division II opponent.

Emory & Henry won eight of the 11 races on the day and went one-two in the 400-meter freestyle.

The Wasps got school-record swims from Payton Shirey (Seaford, Del.) in the 50-meter freestyle (28.07), Lauren Frizzell (Blacksburg, Va.) in the 200-meter freestyle (2:15.27) and Taylor Guardalabene (Charlotte, N.C.) in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:24.26).

The 200-meter freestyle relay team of Sam Brown (Memphis, Tenn.), Sophia Alonge (Vienna, Va.), Frizzell and Shirey also set a new E&H top mark with a time of 1:59.68.

Nicole Powell (Apex, N.C.) got a win in the 800-meter freestyle as she clocked a 10:26.67.

King got out to an 11-0 lead after the 200-meter medley relay. E&H then won four straight events for a 39-36 advantage at the first break. The Lady Tornado was able to get ahead 66-61 with three events remaining but the Wasps performed down the stretch with back-to-back school records. Emory & Henry outscored King, 35-17, over the final three races to take home the win.

E&H will next compete at the Sewanee Invitational on Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1.
